The country’s most challenging trek, 105-km long Chadar Trek on the frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh, is scheduled to set off on Sunday.
On Saturday, the district administration of Leh, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonam Chosjor with the concerned stakeholders, finalised the details of the trek at 11,100 ft above sea level.

There is much enthusiasm among the stakeholders as the trek is being organised after having remained suspended for three years due to Covid-19.
It was decided to resume the trek after a detailed assessment of the preparation needed on the part of various departments, including Tourism, Wildlife, UTDRF, District Disaster Response Force, Health, Police along with the stakeholders like ALTOA and LMGA, etc.
ADC Leh stressed the coordination and collaboration between the concerned departments and stakeholders to successfully conduct the Chadar Trek. He directed the concerned departments and stakeholders to ensure that their defined roles and responsibilities during the Chadar Trek are fulfilled in its entirety without any lapses. He instructed that the basic amenities and facilities should be provided to ensure the safety, health and hygiene of everyone involved in the trek.
ADC Leh also instructed them to ensure that the rules and regulations put in place for the safety of the trekkers and the protection of the environment are strictly followed by all the stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by Chief Controller of Finance (CCF), LAHDC Leh; Deputy Superintendent of Police, PHQ, Leh; Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Disaster Response Force; Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Assistant Director, Tourism, Leh; representatives from UTDRF, Wildlife, LMGA and ALOTA and other concerned officials.
